Guitar Star

Guitar Star offers beginner guitarists a refreshing and inspirational choice of pieces to help build confidence and musical skills. The repertoire, composed and arranged by Gary Ryan, is tailored to develop specific techniques through a range of exciting musical styles.

The colourfully illustrated books contain 42 pieces, activities and a play-along CD. Guitar Star provides a rich variety of repertoire from beginner to approaching-Grade 1 standard, designed to fire the imagination of young learners. Many of the pieces can be used for the ABRSM Guitar Prep Test.

Guitar Prep Test

The Prep Test is an ideal introduction to the ABRSM exam experience. It gives students a goal to work towards and a certificate on the day – something to be proud of. In the exam, candidates need to:

  • play three short tunes from memory
  • choose two pieces to play (one of which can be a duet)
  • take part in four listening games

The Guitar Prep Test book has been completely refreshed for use from January 2019 onwards. We've worked carefully with syllabus selectors to make the Prep Test a perfect stepping stone from beginner to Grade 1 standard.

Containing five newly commissioned pieces (two of which are duets), three short tunes and examples of listening games, preparing for the Guitar Prep Test has never been easier.
